Quit Your Resolution…If You Haven’t Already

She Believed She Could So She Did

How many of you still make resolutions?

How many of you don’t even bother?

I read a study that said most people give up on their New Year’s resolution by January 4th. Where do you stand now?

I can relate if you’re a type-A-busy-but-not-always-productive-stressed-out-goal-setter. One year, I went through my year-end recap and decided on my goals for the next year. I wrote out five categories that were important to me including health, personal, finances, business, and faith. That’s not all. Each category had a subcategory and the subcategory had subcategories. I kid you not. I failed miserably that year according to that resolution list.

Last year was a huge turning point for me. I’m a lot less stressed out. This year, I’m focusing on how I want to live my life and what I want to feel like at the end of 2018. No more writing resolutions to the nth degree.

Resolutions harbor quite a bit of assumption and don’t leave a lot of room for the supernatural.

At least mine didn’t. My resolutions assumed that I was in control of what would happen over the next 365 days. How could I possibly know what God would have for me that year or the lesson I would need to learn? I didn’t realize that then. I do now. Perspective is king.

I quit resolutions along with being busy for the sake of being busy, thinking I can control everything, and being stressed out. I choose joy, contentment, authenticity, and faith instead. And it feels good. I get a chuckle reading over my list of 36 resolutions from that year. New Year’s resolutions don’t do it for me anymore.

I focus on one word.

One word allows me to set my intention for the year using my passion to serve as many people as I can with the time that I have left on this planet. One word allows me to be fully present and open to whatever comes my way.

P.S. If you’re focusing on health this year, do your research before jumping on the fad diet bandwagon!

What’s your one word?
